The Society of the Siblings at Bethany is a Christian community in the Episcopal Diocese of New York, in residence at the Church of the Atonement in the Bronx. We take our name from Martha, Mary and Lazarus, three of Jesus’s friends who lived together at Bethany. In obedience to our Rule, we seek “to live harmoniously in our house, intent upon God in oneness of mind and heart,” recognizing that the unity this requires is a gift of the Holy Spirit.
Because we believe like Martha, Mary and Lazarus did, we start with belonging, not believing. Whoever you are and whatever you think about God and church, you are welcome. Come and pray with us, eat with us, or simply come and see.

God our Father, whose Son enjoyed the love of his friends, Mary, Martha and Lazarus, in learning, argument and hospitality: may we so rejoice in your love that the world may come to know the depths of your wisdom, the wonder of your compassion, and your power to bring life out of death; through the merits of Jesus Christ, our friend and brother, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
